About this blog

I hate exercising. I like walking. I like the peace and the minutiae of observation...by which I mean, you see things on foot that you won't see from behind the wheel of a car. You can also smell the honeysuckle, feel the breeze, hear some birds, possibly taste a few tart blackberries along the way.

This blog is a response to me trying to find what I thought was perfectly straightforward information...what walking trails are near me?...and more or less striking out. There are some listicles and the PATH foundation has a website for their trail system, but as for a comprehensive, easy to use resource to find walking, hiking, or jogging paths...nothing.

Well, this isn't that resource either, at least in the sense that it will only get added to as I personally walk the paths and I don't have an interactive map because I don't know how to make one, but what I will do is give you approximate mileages, where the trail or section of trail starts and stops, and what you might find along the way. I will also tag each post with the location or neighborhood, so you can easily search for something near you.

I'll put the statistics up top for those of you who are in a hurry (I only run when chased). But for those of you who like a leisurely ramble, I'll talk a bit about the experience of each trail. Life is just a series of moments, after all. In the words of that great philosopher Ferris Bueller, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it."
